End of March 2008

March 31st, 2008

The other day Amy and I were standing out front of our apartment.  Our neighbor, Angela, came up to us in a panic and told us that there was a man in her car.  I rushed over and saw a tall white guy with dirty blond shaggy hair getting out of the backseat on the drivers side.

“What are you doing?”, I asked.  He mumbled something about getting yelled at.  He could barely keep himself standing at first.  His belt was undone.  To me he looked like he was strung out.  I told Angela to call 911.  Anyway, he opened the drivers door and grabbed a pillow off the seat.  I asked him what he was doing two or three more times.  He just kept muttering incoherently.

He started to walk west on Main Street so I told her to tell that to the 911 operator.  She yelled out “He has my stuff!”, as she was dialing the phone.  I told him to give me the pillow.  He tried to say something but gave up and and handed it to me.  I opened the drivers door and tossed it in.  He had a large envelope in his hand and she when she saw that she let me know that was hers too.  She went to grab it out of his hand but I stopped her and took it from him and handed it to her.  I didn’t think this guy would strike out but I wasn’t going to take the chance.  After I took the envelope he started to walk away again.

The thing is, he didn’t keep walking.  He walked across the parking lot away from us but got into the drivers’ seat of a Taurus, I believe.  The really weird part was that it was already running.  Right about that time a Towamencin Police Cruiser came tearing around the corner into the development.  He looked at me, on his left, and I pointed to the Taurus.  The officer pulled in behind him so he was trapped.  When he did that, druggie began to get out of the car.  The officer, in about 2 steps, had his sidearm pulled and aimed at the guys chest.

“Get the back in the car!”

“No wait,” he responded.

“Get the fuck back in the car!”  With that, the guy sat back down.

My attention was then pulled in the other direction as six or seven more police cruisers pulled up, from both Towamencin and Lansdale PD.  When I looked back the officer had the guy up again his cruiser frisking him.  Another officer walked up, saw that the first officer had a hard time pulling the guys pants up, since they were falling off because his belt was still undone.  It was pretty funny and both cops laughed about it pretty loud.  All the other cops walked up and they each had to go look at the guys car.  Most of them left after that, leaving three or four cops.  The cop that arrived first came up and talked to both of us.  She was still in panic mode and had a hard time telling him what exactly happened.  It took four tries from the cop asking her questions to understand the whole thing.  I guess that’s understandable considering what had just happened to her.

She had originally left that morning at 5am to take her boyfriend to work.  She had noticed a car running across the parking lot.  When she got back at about 5:30 it was still running.  At 7:15am, while Amy and I were out front, she came out again.  She got in her car but when she went to put the keys in the ignition she heard the crunch of her Kohls bag in the back seat, as if someone had just touched it.  When she looked in the rearview mirror she saw a man looking at her.  At first she panicked but after a few seconds she got out of her car and ran over to us.

I gave a written statement to them and left to get ready for work.  What a way to start the day.

My thoughts on Ron Paul right now.

January 25th, 2008

Tonight MSNBC hosted the Florida Republican Debate.  After which, they conducted a text message poll asking who won.  An hour after the debate they showed the following response:

Romney    41%
Paul    40%
Huckabee    8%
McCain    7%
Giuliana    4%

Their website, on the other hand, asked a series of questions asking “Who do you think did the best or worst in the following six categories?“  On every question asked Ron Paul won with about 60% of the vote.  And this was about 15,500 votes.

If Ron Paul wins in Florida, who I believe has 57 delegates, will the people on the tv start talking about him?  We can only fucking hope.

It can get better again.

Really?

January 23rd, 2008

One night this past week, shortly after Amy went to bed, I was sitting on the couch when I heard someone say something odd. “The animals are watching.” Really? Did I just hear that? What did it mean? We have two cats. Are they watching me? Even if they are it’s not that much to worry about, right? After the second that it took to think all that I realized that the voice sounded like Amy. I then thought that she might be fucking with me through the baby monitor. I walked quickly to the bedroom and whispered “What?” “Don’t forget the laundry”she whispered back. Well that certainly makes more sense.

Let me tell you about what doesn’t make sense right now.

The EPA recently refused to provide lawmakers with a full explanation of why it rejected California’s greenhouse gas regulations. It seems as if California wants to enact, what would be, the country’s strongest laws regarding the MPG on cars, trucks, and SUV’s. Why would the EPA reject a states rulings that would hold that states’ cars and trucks to a higher environmental standard? Why would the Federal Government want to tell a State that they can’t enact stronger environmental standards on the vehicles in their State? Think about it. It’s fucked up. There’s really no other way to describe it. Well, here is the site wired.com site that I read.

And I guess that the other thing I have to comment on, at this time, is the status of Ron Paul. I have a friend in New Hampshire, Jon, who reads my website. Hi Jon. He thinks it’s funny that I like Ron Paul. At least that’s the impression I’ve gotten. Its’ true that Dr. Paul is not in the lead, or even near the lead, in the number of delegates needed for the Republican nomination. But the thing is, that at the time I post this to my website, Dr. Paul is beating Mr. Giuliani by 6 to 2 votes, according to cnn.com.  And yet, Mr. Giuliani is spoken about as if he’s a viable candidate while Dr. Paul is barely even mentioned, if at all. Laugh if you want, but the Country can not go on spending more money then we have coming in. Which is, by the way what we’re doing right now.

Alright - I have to get to bed. It’s nearly 1am on a Wednesday and being a Father is tough business.
