End of March 2008
March 31st, 2008The other day Amy and I were standing out front of our apartment. Our neighbor, Angela, came up to us in a panic and told us that there was a man in her car. I rushed over and saw a tall white guy with dirty blond shaggy hair getting out of the backseat on the drivers side.
“What are you doing?”, I asked. He mumbled something about getting yelled at. He could barely keep himself standing at first. His belt was undone. To me he looked like he was strung out. I told Angela to call 911. Anyway, he opened the drivers door and grabbed a pillow off the seat. I asked him what he was doing two or three more times. He just kept muttering incoherently.
He started to walk west on Main Street so I told her to tell that to the 911 operator. She yelled out “He has my stuff!”, as she was dialing the phone. I told him to give me the pillow. He tried to say something but gave up and and handed it to me. I opened the drivers door and tossed it in. He had a large envelope in his hand and she when she saw that she let me know that was hers too. She went to grab it out of his hand but I stopped her and took it from him and handed it to her. I didn’t think this guy would strike out but I wasn’t going to take the chance. After I took the envelope he started to walk away again.
The thing is, he didn’t keep walking. He walked across the parking lot away from us but got into the drivers’ seat of a Taurus, I believe. The really weird part was that it was already running. Right about that time a Towamencin Police Cruiser came tearing around the corner into the development. He looked at me, on his left, and I pointed to the Taurus. The officer pulled in behind him so he was trapped. When he did that, druggie began to get out of the car. The officer, in about 2 steps, had his sidearm pulled and aimed at the guys chest.
“Get the back in the car!”
“No wait,” he responded.
“Get the fuck back in the car!” With that, the guy sat back down.
My attention was then pulled in the other direction as six or seven more police cruisers pulled up, from both Towamencin and Lansdale PD. When I looked back the officer had the guy up again his cruiser frisking him. Another officer walked up, saw that the first officer had a hard time pulling the guys pants up, since they were falling off because his belt was still undone. It was pretty funny and both cops laughed about it pretty loud. All the other cops walked up and they each had to go look at the guys car. Most of them left after that, leaving three or four cops. The cop that arrived first came up and talked to both of us. She was still in panic mode and had a hard time telling him what exactly happened. It took four tries from the cop asking her questions to understand the whole thing. I guess that’s understandable considering what had just happened to her.
She had originally left that morning at 5am to take her boyfriend to work. She had noticed a car running across the parking lot. When she got back at about 5:30 it was still running. At 7:15am, while Amy and I were out front, she came out again. She got in her car but when she went to put the keys in the ignition she heard the crunch of her Kohls bag in the back seat, as if someone had just touched it. When she looked in the rearview mirror she saw a man looking at her. At first she panicked but after a few seconds she got out of her car and ran over to us.
I gave a written statement to them and left to get ready for work. What a way to start the day.
